New Composers Concert

Spearheaded by Artistic Director Francis Fortier and composer James Park, the Bar Harbor Music Festival inaugurated an annual “New Composers” Concert in Summer 1984 to embrace emerging composers in its artistic philosophy. In the past 27 years, 163 twentieth and twenty-first century compositions have been performed in the 27 “New Composers” Concerts we have presented, including 40 world premieres, two United States premieres, and one New England premiere. Composer-in- Residence Edmund Cionek became the series curator in 1990.
